Please find below a pre-Christmas update on the bin collections

Festive Collection Schedule

Collection dates for blue, green and grey bins will change for most households:

  • Collections due on Tuesday, 23 December, will change to Monday, 22 December

  • Collections due on Wednesday, 24 December, will change to Tuesday, 23 December

  • Collections due on Thursday, 25 December, will change to Wednesday, 24 December

  • Collections due on Friday, 26 December, will change to Monday, 29 December

  • Collections due on Tuesday, 30 December – no change.

  • Collections due on Wednesday 31 December - no change.

  • Collections due on Thursday, 1 January. will change to Friday, 2 January.

  • Collections due on Friday, 2 January, will change to Saturday, 3 January.

Please note: Brown bin collections are paused between 22 Dec and 4 Jan due to reduced garden waste. This allows crews to focus on other bins, which fill up faster during the festive period.

 Resident Reminders

Put bins out by 7 am on the scheduled day.

All waste must fit inside the bins with the lid closed – no extra waste will be collected.

Position bins with handles facing the road and avoid blocking collection vehicles

If residents have extra waste, Household Waste and Recycling Centres are open daily except 25 December and 1 January.

Christmas Tree Recycling

After Christmas, residents can:

  • Chop up and place their real tree in the brown bin (lid closed, decorations and base removed).

  • Take it to a recycling centre.

  • Or donate to Bury Hospice for collection between Friday 9 and Sunday 11 January 2026 (register by 5 Jan): More details and how to register at: Christmas Tree Collection 2025

 Service Disruption Plan

Crews will aim to keep to the revised schedule, but winter illness or severe weather may cause delays. If collections are missed:

Keep bins out until emptied.

Sign up for bin alerts at www.bury.gov.uk/bincollections

Missed bins will be collected the next working day, where possible. While this cannot be guaranteed, everything possible will be done to keep disruption to a minimum.
